wearing compression stockings to improve blood circulation
The following medications help manage nocturia:
Anticholinergics. These drugs reduce the tone of the bladder and, accordingly, reduce the frequency of urination. Possible side effects include blurred vision, dizziness, and dry mouth.
Antidiuretic hormone (vasopressin). Reduces urine production in the kidneys. It may be recommended for older people who have decreased production of their own vasopressin.
Herbal remedies. Extracts from some plants (e.g., licorice, Kalanchoe pinnata) reduce the contractility of the bladder and help reduce nocturnal diuresis.
